By now, the dead horse that is the hatred for 2016, has already had the shit beaten out if it. So, we’ll disregard that for this introductory post. Instead, our efforts will be geared towards reminding our readers to remain enthused about the presumed possibilities brought forth by the turn of each year and be kinder to ourselves while in pursuit of any desired outcomes.
“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” ― Arnold Bennett
As humans, most of us are socialized to navigate the world in the bodies we are in. Therefore, it would be beneficial to us, to understand and respect that this is our point of departure. Keeping this in mind the urge to abdicate to our socialized patterns and get swept along in the re-up mentality, that comes with bringing in a New Year (whenever one celebrates it) becomes too overwhelming for most to resist. The perception of newness and endless possibilities inevitably take over and before we know it, thoughts and ideas of renewed chances at life grow to be overwhelming. Killing off the initial excitement we initially associated with a fresh start.
Upon refection, we have come to identify this phenomenon one with a reoccurring general theme. Which is: a problem of balance. Meaning we often times want to do it all, and do it once. All or nothing, which often prevents us from enjoying the small victories along the way and thus makes the act of giving up, the choice we are most likely to make.
A way around that is to think and dream big however, one should allow oneself to start small, in order to grow into one’s purpose and truly understand and enjoy the voyage. Naturally, the process will initially be daunting. However, we believe the excitement that accompanies the unknown, more than makes up for that. One of the most compelling attributes of the human experience is that we never are quite there yet, we are ever evolving and learning whether we are accepting of that process or not. So take time to be proud of what you have accomplished so far. More will come.
Well! Enough of the philosophizing got a multiple day New Years’ observance to catch up on. Looking forward to hanging witchy’all in 17 and beyond.
